San Diego Selects Federal Engineering For Public Safety Wireless Communications Consultant Services

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, March 19, 2010 — The County of San Diego, California has selected Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) to evaluate existing public safety radio communications systems and infrastructure; assess future regional public safety communications requirements; recommend technical solutions to meet identified future regional communications requirements; and support a successful migration to next generation technologies.

Ms. Susan Willy, Manager for the San Diego Sheriff’s Department’s Wireless Services Division, described the project: “The San Diego County – Imperial County Regional Communications System (RCS) is an 800 MHz trunked radio system. The system was activated in 1998 with an original planned system life cycle of 15 years. The RCS geographically covers two adjacent counties, San Diego and Imperial, located in Southern California, and serves a combined area of 8,859 square miles. The two counties are bordered on the West by the Pacific Ocean, on the North by Orange and Riverside counties, on the East by Arizona, and Mexico to the South.”

Ms. Willy continued: “Federal Engineering was retained to perform a variety of consulting tasks related to public safety radio communications including the following:

  • Provide an evaluation of existing public safety radio communications systems and infrastructure Conduct an assessment of future regional communications requirements
  • Develop recommendations for technical solutions to meet future regional communications requirements

Once a solution has been identified and approved, FE may also assist with future phases of the project including the procurement of, and migration to, the new regional public safety communications system as follows:

  • Develop business requirements and technical specifications
  • Generate a Request for Proposal and provide source selection assistance Synthesize a business plan and assist with program management duties
  • Provide project implementation management and oversight services
  • Perform independent validation and verification”

Bosco, FE’s President.
