Boone County, Kentucky Awards Federal Engineering Microwave Consulting Contract

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, February 15, 2010 — Boone County, Kentucky has awarded Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) a consulting contract to support the procurement and implementation of a new microwave system for public safety communications. Under this contract, FE will assess the current aging 5 site microwave network and determine the requirements for a new system.

FE will interview key County personnel involved with the operations and maintenance of the existing microwave system. Information to be gathered will include details of existing systems and expectations for the new systems. The new microwave system will ultimately support a future upgrade to a digital public safety mobile radio network.

To support procurement activities, FE will describe the functional and performance requirements of the microwave infrastructure in sufficient detail for vendors to submit consistent proposals that are verifiable through future acceptance testing. FE’s RFP package will consist of the following components or work areas: Microwave Network, Simulcast Subsystem Upgrade, and Alarm and Control.

FE will also provide implementation support services to the County including program management, site inspections, document control, systems testing, and independent validation and verification.

We selected Federal Engineering due to their analytical and implementation experience with microwave systems in the public safety environment,” stated Mr. James N. Staverman, Director of the Boone County PSCC. Mr Staverman went on to say: “FE is particularly sensitive to the high availability communications needs of first responders due to their experience with hundreds of similar systems.”

FE provides a wide range of land mobile radio analysis, design, procurement support, and implementation management services for public safety, public service, transportation, and energy systems. The firm also provides security analyses, disaster recovery planning, strategic assessments, product analyses, market research, and business planning services in telecommunications and related fields.

As a nationwide communications systems planning and design firm, Federal Engineering develops voice, data, and video networks for a wide range of end users, including organizations in the aerospace, energy, finance, education, publishing, and computer services fields. In addition to its private sector work, FE has completed hundreds of communications projects for 30 state governments, as well as numerous local and federal government clients. FE’s certified independence ensures that clients receive objective, unbiased consulting services that are not influenced by any particular technology, product, vendor, or approach.
