Kern County Selects Federal Engineering for Implementation Support for New Public Safety Radio and Microwave Systems
FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, December 12, 2016 — The County of Kern, CA has awarded Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) a contract to evaluate their existing radio system and microwave systems and assist the County in procuring and implemented new, state-of-the-art systems to support first responders.
Mr. Lorenz Dauner, Communications Manager, indicated: “The County of Kern requires a qualified consultant company that is capable of providing input, guidance, and direction to determine specifications, layout, and implementation procedures for our new Public Safety Radio and Microwave Systems. We issued a request for proposals and received qualified bids from multiple firms. Federal Engineering submitted the best proposal clearly demonstrating a strong understanding of the RFP requirements. The Evaluation committee found FE’s proposed approach to all tasks superior. In addition, the firm experience in similar projects especially here, in California, was instrumental in understanding our unique requirements. FE’s references from previous projects served to further strengthen our decision.”
Mr. Ronald F. Bosco, FE’s President and CEO, provided a vignette of the project: “Kern County is the third largest county in California and is encompassing approximately 8,132 square miles of valley, lowlands, high desert, and dividing mountain ranges. This variety of terrain creates a challenging environment for radio systems to provide reliable and adequate coverage for Fire, Sheriff, Emergency Medical Services, Probation, Animal Control, Roads and Parks, and other County departments. Federal Engineering will apply its vast technical knowledge to meet these challenges.”
Mr. Bosco went on: “In addition to radio system support, FE will assist in upgrading a microwave system with over 1,050 miles of loops. This system will interconnect radio towers, tie-in the telephone switches from the outlying offices, provide WAN connections to each County Fire Station, and ensure network connectivity to the California Law Enforcement Telecommunication System as well as the Federal Criminal Justice Information System.”
