Davenport Chooses Federal Engineering For Radio System Design Services
FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, October 21, 2011 — the City of Davenport, Iowa has chosen Federal Engineering, Inc.
(FE) to update the City’s Public Works radio communications capabilities and technology infrastructure.
Mr. Robert Henry, Chief Information Officer for the City said: “Davenport requires the professional consulting services of a firm that specializes in radio systems design for local governments. We reviewed a number of proposals and selected Federal Engineering based upon their superior approach to our project. In addition, Federal Engineering has been actively involved in land mobile radio consulting throughout our state for several years now and has a deep understanding of our unique environment. The firm’s total independence from manufactures and service suppliers was also a determining factor in FE’s selection.”
Mr. Ronald F. Bosco, FE’s President, described the program: “Davenport’s radio communications infrastructure currently supports all radio users with the exception of public safety. Public safety users are supported by a countywide system via consolidated dispatched services. Radio communications in Davenport is built upon conventional UHF radio technology that has proven highly reliable. Over the years, the ratio system has been upgraded, improvements to coverage have been made, and the infrastructure has been dynamically expanded as needed. However, the demands placed on the radio infrastructure have grown as a result of increased portable radio usage as well as interdepartmental, interagency, and multi-state coordination.”
Mr. Bosco continued: “Federal Engineering will work with Davenport to update the City’s Public Works radio communications capabilities and technology infrastructure. The updated system will interoperate with the new county-wide public safety communications system and also serve as its backup. FE will analyze user needs, and review the current radio system and its elements. We will assess the functionality and operations of the system and develop a comprehensive strategic plan to provide improved communications and operations. A detailed implementation plan for the future will also be developed by FE.”
Federal Engineering provides a wide range of design and management services in public safety and public service involving VHF, UHF, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz and 4.9GHz communications systems. FE also assists in the design and implementation of E911, PSAPs, ECCs, and EOCs.
As a nationwide communications systems planning and design firm, Federal Engineering develops voice, data, and video networks for numerous firms including utilities, transportation, aerospace, energy, finance, education, publishing, and computer services. In addition to its private sector work, FE has completed over a thousand communications projects for 30 state governments, as well as numerous local and federal government clients. FE’s certified independence ensures that clients receive objective, unbiased consulting services that are not influenced by any particular technology, product, vendor, or approach.
