Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians Selects Federal Engineering to Conduct a Feasibility Study for Interoperability Communications

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, March 23, 2020 — The Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians, California has selected Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) to provide a feasibility study for the development of the Tribe’s Interoperability Communications Plan.

Ms. Dore Bietz, Project Manager for the Tribe provided an overview: “In 2019 The Tuolumne Band of Me-Wuk Indians received an award from the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services under the FY17 Homeland Security Grant Program, to assess communications needs and develop an interoperable communications plan. There currently exist several systems for individual tribal entities that cannot communicate with one another and we need to see how we can coordinate through the design and purchase of equipment to achieve interoperability. The feasibility study requires a system to satisfy the needs of agencies across several jurisdictions to assess, analyze and prepare a Communications plan for all tribal entities to utilize. The consultant shall facilitate the exchange of information among shareholders which will include but not limited to OES, Fire, Tribal Security, and Casino PSO’s.”

Ms. Bietz continued: “The Tribes requested proposals from qualified firms to provide guidance and assistance in the process. We were very pleased to receive a proposal from Federal Engineering who was not only experienced in California but also had extensive tribal experience across the country. FE understands the unique aspects of tribal government and we are thrilled they are on our team.”

Mr. Rajit Have, FE Director said: “Federal Engineering will perform the following tasks in completion of this project:

  • Meet with all first responder agencies within the Tribe (OES, Fire, Tribal Security, Casino PSO’s) to understand current operations
  • Develop and assessment that considers existing, future, and desired needs
  • Prepare alternatives for improvement
  • Proved site acquisition and development support as needed
  • Conduct a technical needs assessment
  • Conduct an operational needs assessment
  • Provide technical support for system design
  • Develop conceptual designs, feasibility options and recommendations

Our work will culminate in the development of an Interoperability Communications Plans to effectively deal with terrorism and other catastrophic events.”
