Sussex County Awards Federal Engineering Public Safety Radio Communication Consulting Contract

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, May 7, 2012 — Sussex County, Virginia has awarded Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) a contract to conduct a Public Safety Radio Communication System Needs Analysis for the County for a new P-25, Phase I Communication System that will be upgradeable to P-25 Phase II in the future.

“The new communication system will be used by the Sheriff’s Department, Volunteer Fire Departments, two EMS agencies, the County Administration, Emergency Management and the school system,” indicated Mr. Eddie T. Vick, Public Safety Coordinator for the County.” Mr. Vick continued: “Federal Engineering was selected due to their superior proposal and extensive radio experience spanning hundreds of projects here in the Commonwealth. We look forward to working with FE and leveraging their background to get the best possible system for the County at the lowest possible price.”

Mr. Ronald F. Bosco described the program: “FE will complete the following tasks for Sussex:”

  • Conduct a communication needs analysis involving all radio user organizations
  • Conduct a propagation study of the County’s service area and, provide coverage maps identifying c overage gap areas
  • Identify where tower location will be needed
  • Identify equipment height on towers
  • Identify tower construction as necessary
  • Evaluate radio frequencies to ensure compatibility with the envisioned P-25 Phase I and II systems
  • Identify new equipment to be purchased including infrastructure, microwave backbone, mobile and handheld radio units, and computer aided dispatch consoles.

FE will provide a report in both electronic and hardcopy formats, that outlines the results of the analysis. The report will include a propagation study delineating the expected coverage of the recommended new system.”
