State of Washington Awards Federal Engineering Contract for Land Mobile Radio Strategic Plan

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, June 27, 2022 – The Washington State Patrol (WSP) has awarded Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) a contract to develop a strategic plan for the State’s Land Mobile Radio (LMR) System.

“The WSP radio system supports more than 1,200 agency personnel and provides contracted dispatching services for other state and federal law enforcement using land mobile radio statewide,” said Mr. Rajit Jhaver, FE Director. “The WSP Electronic Services Division (ESD) sought a highly qualified and experienced consultant to develop a comprehensive strategic plan for the upgrade of the WSP Land Mobile Radio system. The WSP’s goal is to migrate to a statewide P25 Phase-2 700 MHZ system, which prepares the agency for the eventual FCC Phase-2 narrowband requirement. The WSP also seeks to focus on simplifying its LMR system for users and technical staff, evaluating the use of new and emerging technologies like FirstNet and LMR-to-LTE integration, and addressing long-standing coverage challenges specifically for portable radios.”

Mr. Jhaver continued: “Federal Engineering has completed land mobile radio projects for 24 states, more than any other consulting firm. We understand the complexities of statewide systems including diverse user requirements, coverage issues, the reliance on multiple systems, and the need to deliver affordable solutions. We look forward to bringing the lessons learned and best practices gathered from these engagements to our Washington State project.”
