FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, March 8, 2021 – Galax, Virginia. The Twin County Regional 911 Commission has awarded Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) a contract to develop a strategic plan for new radio communication systems for the counties of Carroll and Grayson, the City of Galax, and the Towns of Hillsville and Independence.
Ms. Jolena Young, 911 Regional Coordinator and project manager for the Commission, provided an overview: “The Participating Jurisdictions implemented a regional radio system in 2009 with grant funding. After implementation, it became the individual jurisdiction’s responsibility to maintain equipment located within their jurisdiction. Galax and Carroll Law Enforcement have subsequently updated their equipment to digital. However, much of the Fire and Rescue equipment remains analog and is aging out. The Participating Jurisdictions have formed a Regional Radio Interoperability Task Force (RRITF) in order to ensure continuous regional cooperation and interoperability of public safety communication systems. The RRITF served as the Selection Committee and chose Federal Engineering as the result of a competitive RFP process. FE’s extensive experience with Virginia jurisdictions, spotless record of performance, and their deep knowledge of our unique circumstances made them the obvious choice.”
Mr. Ronald F. Bosco, FE’s President & CEO stated: “Many of us live in Virginia and our corporate headquarters is located in the Commonwealth. We are thrilled to be serving another Virginia jurisdiction and applying our 38 years of background to develop a meaningful public safety communications strategy for the Commission. FE will conduct a thorough needs assessment of all the participating jurisdictions, audit the current radio systems, develop recommendations taking advantage of new technologies, and provide a phased plan for the procurement and implementation of the new region radio system. We will deliver a solution that is both practical and affordable while meeting the needs of the radio users.”
