Federal Engineering Assisting Gainesville Regional Utilities With 800 MHz Rebanding

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, August 4, 2010 — The City of Gainesville, Florida has awarded Federal Engineering (FE) a contract to assist in the rebanding of the City’s 800 MHz mobile radio systems. FE will be involved in all phases of the program from the initial analysis of existing facilities through migration to the new frequencies.

Mr. James Werner, Supervisor for the Gainesville Regional Utilities stated: “The City of Gainesville owns and operates multiple 800 MHz radio subsystems which are integrated into the Trunked Radio System (TRS). The TRS is managed by the communications division of the municipal utility, Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRUCom). The TRS provides public safety and public service communications throughout Alachua County, Florida via inter local agreements established between the City and Alachua County as well as between the City and the University of Florida. GRUCom is obligated to adjust the frequency usage of its systems to comply with the FCC rebanding order.”

“The 800 MHz band reconfiguration process is divided into two main segments,” according to Ronald F. Bosco, FE’s President. “Phase One, the Planning and Negotiation Phase, includes all planning and research activities that will prepare GRUCom for the actual reconfiguration. Phase Two, the Reconfiguration Implementation Phase, is where the actual reconfiguration is performed, as well as the final completion of the process. It is the goal of Federal Engineering to assist the City in making the process of reconfiguration a smooth and efficient one while minimizing the impacts on system users. FE will rely upon proven methodologies refined over five years of rebanding public safety mobile radio systems to ensure these goals are met.”

Federal Engineering provides a wide range of design and management services for public safety involving VHF, UHF, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz and 4.9GHz communications systems. Expertise is provided for LTE, WiMAX, and Wi-FI data systems. FE also assists in the design and implementation of E911 centers, PSAPs, ECCs, and EOCs.

As a nationwide communications systems planning and design firm, Federal Engineering develops voice, data, and video networks for a wide range of end users, including organizations in the aerospace, energy, finance, education, publishing, and computer services fields. In addition to its private sector work, FE has completed hundreds of communications projects for 30 state governments, as well as numerous local and federal government clients.
