Federal Engineering Awarded Contract By Pittsylvania County, Virginia For Radio System Implementation Support

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, February 6, 2012 — Pittsylvania County, Virginia has awarded Federal Engineering (FE) a contract extension to assist the County in the implementation of their new 700 MHz, P25 Phase 2 public safety communications system.

“Federal Engineering recently conducted a needs assessment of first responders for our County, provided a conceptual system design, and assisted in the procurement of a new public safety mobile radio system. The County awarded a contract to Harris Corporation and is now entering the implementation phase of this program,” indicated Mr. Jim Davis, Interoperability Program Director for Pittsylvania County. Mr. Davis continued: “We have been very satisfied with FE’s work. The firm has consistently exceeded our expectations and we will be relying upon them to assist the County as this project moves forward.”

Ronald F. Bosco, FE’s President, provided an overview of the program: “FE will perform the following tasks:

  • Coordinate and attend the kickoff meeting
  • Reviews of radio system vendor’s preliminary and final designs
  • Oversee implementation tasks to verify timely completion and adherence to schedule
  • Assist the County in resolving vendor implementation issues
  • Oversee the vendor’s punch list and monitor the resolution of issues or deficiencies
  • Coordinate and conduct project status meetings
  • Perform site installation inspections for radio system and microwave equipment
  • Verify compliance with standards and guidelines for communication sites
  • Review radio system vendor’s operational, coverage, and final system acceptance tests
  • Assist the County with fleet mapping
  • Review and provide comments on the radio system vendor’s cutover plan
  • Participate with the vendor’s test team during testing and verify test results
  • Attend final system acceptance testing

Federal Engineering’s goal is to ensure Pittsylvania receives a radio system that meets its contractual needs while minimizing the risks to the County.”
