Northwest Central Dispatch System Awards Federal Engineering Contract for Computer Aided Dispatch System Consulting

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, August 10, 2015 — Northwest Central Dispatch System (NWCDS) has awarded Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) a contract to assess the current public safety systems and operations at the PSAP and their impact on NWCDS’s client agencies.

Mr. Ronald F. Bosco, FE’s President, said: “NWCDS is a consolidated emergency dispatch center, serving 21 northwest suburban police and fire departments in Cook County, Illinois. The PSAP dispatches approximately 246,000 calls for service annually and answers an average of 1,538 telephone calls per day. The center was renovated in 2003 and its systems are approaching end-of-life. FE will conduct an operational assessment of the existing Computer Aided Dispatch and other PSAP systems, their impacts on NWCDS operations and NWCDS client agencies, and the adequacy of these systems to provide services to the public. Should NWCDS desire to upgrade, FE will generate specifications for inclusion in an RFP, evaluate the vendor responses, and assist in contract negotiations. FE may also provide program management and quality assurance support during the implementation phase of this project.”

Ms. Cindy Barbera-Brelle, Executive Director of NWCDS stated: “Northwest Central Dispatch System has been providing state-of-the- art dispatching services to our client police and fire departments for over 40 years. We continually assess our systems to ensure that we are leveraging the best technologies. NWCDS selected Federal Engineering because of the firm’s broad experience providing public safety information and communications systems consulting to nearby counties, regional work within the state, and similar projects across the country. Their understanding of organizations similar to NWCDS, regulatory issues, and cultural frameworks will promote rapid and lower cost analyses. Most importantly, FE’s certified independence will ensure we receive objective analysis, free from the influences of hardware vendors, software suppliers, or service providers.”

Federal Engineering provides analysis, design, procurement, and implementation support for NG9-1-1, PSAPs, ECCs, and EOCs. These services complement FE’s wide range of consulting services in public safety and public service communications involving LTE as well as traditional VHF, UHF, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz and 4.9GHz mobile radio systems. FE also supports FirstNet planning in anticipation of the Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network. Since 1983, FE has completed thousands of communications projects for 40 state governments, as well as numerous local and federal government clients.

In addition to its public sector work, Federal Engineering provides design and implementation support services for voice, data, and video networks used in the transportation, utilities, aerospace, finance, education, publishing, and  computer services industries. FE’s certified independence ensures that clients receive objective, unbiased consulting services that are not influenced by any particular technology, product, vendor, or approach.
