Federal Engineering to Provide Middlesex County with Radio Upgrade Implementation Support
FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, April 4, 2016 — Middlesex County, VA has contracted with Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) to provide implementation consulting support for the upgrade of its public safety mobile radio system.
Mr. Matt Walker, County Administrator, said: “Federal Engineering was instrumental in assisting us with the Detailed Stage of the Virginia Public-Private Education Facilities and Infrastructure Act of 2002 (PPEA) process to acquire a new 800 MHz public safety mobile radio system. Through the PPEA process, contractual obligations of the public-private partnership were finalized to put in place a radio system that will meet the current and future needs of our first responders and citizens. FE subject matter experts guided us through this process and we appreciate the time and effort they put into ensuring our project goals were met. We look forward to working with FE during the next phase of this process to ensure that the radio vendor delivers the envisioned system and meets its contractual obligations to the County.”
Mr. Ronald F. Bosco, FE’s President, provided an overview: “In August, 2015 the County requested that Federal Engineering complete various design and procurement activities that remained unfinished by a previous consulting firm. Following the PPEA guidelines, FE reviewed the Harris proposal including the system design, equipment test plans, acceptance test plan, cutover/migration plans, and system backup and failure plans. We assisted the County during negotiations and contract award to Harris.”
Mr. Bosco went on: “During this next phase of the project, FE will provide project management and quality assurance services in support of radio system implementation. FE will:
- Conduct preliminary and final design reviews
- Observe factory testing
- Manage equipment delivery
- Perform installation verification
- Oversee coverage and system testing
- Observe system acceptance and cutover
- Assess delivered documentation”
Federal Engineering provides analysis, design, procurement, and implementation support for NG9-1-1, PSAPs, ECCs, and EOCs.
