Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Selects Federal Engineering For Public Safety Communications Infrastructure Design
FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, March 20, 2012 — Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC) in Arizona has selected Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) to provide technical assistance in the design of the Community’s new public safety communications infrastructure.
Mr. Scott Houston, SRPMIC Project Manager, said: “The Community went through a comprehensive and competitive procurement process to identity the best public safety communications consulting firm to assist us in modernizing our radio systems. Most importantly, we were looking for a firm that has on-going Native American experience and understands our unique needs. Federal Engineering’s proposal demonstrated a deep and broad background in the requisite technologies including experience with over a dozen projects with Native American communities. FE was clearly the best choice for SRPMIC.”
Mr. Ronald F. Bosco, FE’s President, provided an overview: “The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community is located in the Phoenix metropolitan area and is adjacent to the cities of Mesa, Tempe, and Scottsdale. Over 250,000 persons travel through the Community for work, school, entertainment, recreation and shopping. The Salt River Police Department is a full service department consisting of four divisions: Administration, Criminal Investigations, Field Operations and Public Safety Communications. The Salt River Fire Department is an all-risk response organization providing firefighting, advanced life support ambulance response, technical rescue services, and wild land fire suppression. In addition to internal interoperability, the SRPMIC’s first responders must communicate with surrounding jurisdictions including the Arizona Department of Public Safety, Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, Arizona Department of Transportation, Maricopa County Department of Transportation, the cities of Mesa, and Tempe, the Fort McDowell Indian Community, and the US Forest Services.”
Mr. Bosco continued: “SRPMIC intends to build a new public safety communications radio system to replace the current voice and data systems for Police, Fire, and the Department of Corrections. FE’s efforts will include needs assessments, infrastructure analysis, and recommendation for the new system.”
