Northumberland County Chooses Federal Engineering for Radio System Assessment
FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, November 26, 2018 — Northumberland County, Virginia has chosen Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) to provide a comprehensive evaluation and assessment of the County’s current public safety radio and paging communications systems.
“Federal Engineering has been chosen to work in conjunction with the Board of Supervisors, County Administrator, and Emergency Services (including but not limited to: Northumberland Sheriff’s Office, Department of Emergency Services, and Volunteer Fire and Rescue Services) to assess the current radio system and recommend improvements,” stated Mr. E. Luttrell Tadlock, the Northumberland County Administrator. “Only firms who are actively engaged in the business of public safety radio/paging communications system consulting, auditing, and evaluation were considered for our project. We were only interested in companies with an active and current customer list with which similar services were completed. It was also very important to the County the selected firm is not affiliated, in any way, with a radio equipment manufacturer or supplier so that any ideas, changes, or solutions presented are not biased to that of any communications system providers.”
Mr. Ronald F. Bosco, President and CEO of Federal Engineering, provided more detail: “The Northumberland system is made up of five simulcast transmitter sites with three VHF analog channels. The sites are interconnected by licensed digital point-to-point microwave system. The dispatch radio console equipment is located at the Northumberland County Sheriff’s Office. FE shall investigate and document the currently installed public safety radio system and evaluate the existing infrastructure. We will meet with system users to identify current issues being experienced. At the conclusion of the project, FE will provide written and verbal reports as well as recommendations for improvements to the Northumberland County Board of Supervisors.”
