Marin County Selects Federal Engineering for Wireless Communications Consulting Services
FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, November 16, 2015 — Marin County, CA has awarded Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) a contract to assist in analysis, procurement and implementation of a 700MHz P25, 6.25 KHz spectrum efficient radio system to support the Marin Emergency Radio Authority (MERA), a countywide consortium of public agencies and first responders.
Mr. Pat Echols, the County’s Assistant Director of Public Works and MERA Operations Officer said: “MERA solicited proposals from qualified wireless communications consultants that have expertise and experience with public safety land mobile radio systems to assist in procurement and implementation of a replacement of our current system. A MERA Next Gen Project Oversight Committee (NGPOC) was established to monitor and report on the progress of this important project. NGPOC’s Wireless Consultant Subcommittee developed and issued a request for proposals. We received and evaluated six proposals and interviewed the top three firms. Federal Engineering was selected based upon the quality of their proposal, which exceeded all of our requirements and the firm’s strong performance during the interviews. In addition, MERA is comfortable that FE has a good understanding of the unique conditions of the Bay Area having worked with the firm in a previous project five years ago.”
Mr. Ronald F. Bosco, FE’s President and CEO, provided a vignette of the Marin project: “The County’s project entails the update of the comprehensive 700 MHz P25 RFP written by Federal Engineering in 2010. FE will refresh our previous needs assessment, assess system alternatives, analyze the need for four additional radio sites to fill coverage gaps, assist with FCC frequency applications, develop a preliminary implementation schedule, and generate an updated RFP for acquisition of the new system. FE will also provide expert technical and solicitation support, assistance with radio system vendor proposal evaluations and support contract negotiations with the selected vendor representing the County’s interests. Should the County desire, FE can provide system implementation support including project management and technical oversight.”
