Floyd County Selects Federal Engineering for Public Safety Communications System Design

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, October 11, 2021 – Floyd County, Virginia has selected Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) to provide analyses, recommendations, and direction for the County-wide Public Safety radio system.

Mr. Kevin Sowers, Floyd County Project Manager said: “The County sought proposals for a qualified Public Safety Communications System Consulting Firm to provide recommendations and direction for the County-wide Public Safety radio system. The Consultant will provide its analysis, conclusions, recommendations, and directions to the County in the form of a Public Safety Communications Plan and publicly present the Plan to the Floyd County Board of Supervisors. Our expectation was that the selected consulting firm would have an extensive radio systems background and be able to audit the current system, analyze the functionality and operations of the system and develop a comprehensive strategic plan to provide improved communications and operations as well as provide detailed implementation plans. We received multiple proposals from qualified firms and selected Federal Engineering based upon their extensive experience here in the Commonwealth as well as the outstanding references we received from FE clients.”

Mr. Brad Barber, FE Director said: “We are excited to be working with Floyd County to improve radio communication for the County’s first responders. FE will apply our proven methodologies, refined over 2,000 projects, to deliver a successful project to Floyd County. We will provide expertise in the design, procurement, implementation, quality assurance, coordination, performance testing, system cutover, and acceptance stages of the new radio communication system for the County. The County will benefit from our demonstrated expertise with current public safety radio communications systems and technology as well as the most current industry trends and initiatives as set forth by organizations such as the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO), the National Public Safety Telecommunication Council (NPSTC), and dominant radio system manufacturers. Because of FE’s implementation support background, we are intimately familiar with governing rules and regulations as issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and other relevant agencies (FAA, NTIA, etc.), and possess the demonstrated subject matter expertise and hands-on experience that will be needed by the County.”
