City Of Hampton Awards Federal Engineering Consulting Contract For Public Safety Mobile Radio Upgrade
FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, February 3, 2010 — The City of Hampton, Virginia has awarded Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) a contract to provide consulting services to upgrade the City’s aging public safety mobile radio network. This contract encompasses all phases of the program including needs assessment, system design, procurement assistance, implementation support, and independent validation and verification.
“The current Hampton public safety mobile radio system is an analog, 800 MHz system installed in 1993. This system is approaching the end of its useful life and as such, is difficult to maintain. In addition, it will hamper interoperability as surrounding jurisdictions move to more modern, digital systems,” said FE’s President Ronald F. Bosco. Mr. Bosco continued: “Hampton has taken a proactive approach and is leveraging existing city and regional assets to upgrade its radio system in the most cost effective manner possible. The new radio system will solve existing coverage problems, accommodate the current and future needs of all participating City departments and allow for interoperability with surrounding jurisdictions.”
Mr. Curt J. Shaffer, Director of Communications for the City, stated: “Federal Engineering was selected because of the firm’s background and track record. FE has been active in communications consulting in the Hampton Roads Region for over a decade. As a result of these programs, the firm has developed unique insights into the local public safety communications environment. FE is currently supporting several surrounding jurisdictions and the firm’s in-depth knowledge of their radio systems will ensure interoperability with the new Hampton system.”
FE provides a wide range of land mobile radio analysis, design, procurement support, and implementation management services for public safety, public service, transportation, and energy systems. The firm also provides security analyses, disaster recovery planning, strategic assessments, product analyses, market research, and business planning services in telecommunications and related fields.
As a nationwide communications systems planning and design firm, Federal Engineering develops voice, data, and video networks for a wide range of end users, including organizations in the aerospace, energy, finance, education, publishing, and computer services fields. In addition to its private sector work, FE has completed hundreds of communications projects for 30 state governments, as well as numerous local and federal government clients. FE’s certified independence ensures that clients receive objective, unbiased consulting services that are not influenced by any particular technology, product, vendor, or approach.
