Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Chooses Federal Engineering as Real Time Crime Center Consultant
FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, December 5, 2022 – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) in Charlotte, North Carolina has chosen Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) to serve as the Department’s Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) consultant to conduct an assessment and develop recommendations for improving operational efficiency and preparing CMPD for future RTCC technologies as they emerge.
Mr. Ronald F. Bosco, President & CEO of Federal Engineering said: “The CMPD requires a consultant to evaluate the current state of the RTCC, identify gaps in the current operations and technology tools, develop recommendations to streamline operations, and prepare a five-year roadmap for the center. Federal Engineering values our ongoing relationship with the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County and our previous projects to consult with the County’s first responders on computer aided dispatch (CAD) and public safety answering point (PSAP) migration projects. Our team is thoroughly familiar with CMPD’s public safety communications environment and functionality. This in-depth knowledge of their environment facilitated an immediate startup and will result in reduced costs.”
Ms. Crystal Combs, Public Safety Technology Director for the City of Charlotte, provided an overview: “The CMPD has been a leader in embracing the complex and interdependent operating environment of an RTCC. We understand the critical importance of data-driven policing and the ever-changing technology of cameras and video surveillance. The lifecycle of such systems has many considerations. These include next generation technologies, networks, operations, human resources and staffing, governance, systems integration, and costs. The goal of this project is to develop a five-year plan to further enhance CMPD’s capabilities for solving crime in real time. Existing operations will be evaluated as well as the technologies supporting the RTCC and enhancements recommended to best utilize current and future technological tools.”
