Albuquerque Awards Federal Engineering Land Mobile Radio Consultant Contract

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, October 5, 2015 — The City of Albuquerque, NM has awarded Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) a contract to assess the three existing land mobile radio (LMR) systems and assist in the creation of a request for proposals for the procurement of a new Project-25 (P-25) compliant LMR system.

Mr. James Beaudet III, Radio Communications Manager for the City of Albuquerque said: “The City and Bernalillo County recognize that the two existing Public Safety LMR systems and the General Services LMR system are nearing their end of life expectancy and that many of the subsystems are currently unsupported. In addition to the LMR systems becoming obsolete, portables, mobiles, and dispatch consoles are also outdated and nearing their end of life and will need to be replaced. At the same time, the need for interoperable LMR communications continues to grow among the City, County, surrounding counties, cities, towns, villages, reservations, and other Public Safety agencies.”

Mr. Beaudet III went on: “This is a very important project to us and we want to make sure we could rely upon the selected consulting firm as our trusted advisor. The City released a competitive request for proposals to acquire the services of a firm with current LMR experience, past experience with at least three projects of similar scope and size, and strong references for work performed in the past three to five years. City personnel conducted a comprehensive proposal review process and selected Federal Engineering for submitting the winning proposal.”

Mr. Ronald F. Bosco, FE’s President, provided an overview of the project: “FE will assess existing land mobile radio systems as well as subscriber equipment. We will meet with system users to determine the performance, functionality, and features requirements of the new LMR system. We will also gather from users the requirements and features of the new subscriber equipment. A request for proposals will then be developed that reflects both current and future needs. FE’s RFP will be vendor neutral, thereby encouraging competition, but in sufficient detail to promote the quantitative analysis of each of the equipment vendor proposals.”

Federal Engineering provides analysis, design, procurement, and implementation support for NG9-1-1, PSAPs, ECCs, and EOCs. These services complement FE’s wide range of consulting services in public safety and public service communications involving LTE as well as traditional VHF, UHF, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz and 4.9GHz mobile radio systems. FE also supports FirstNet planning in anticipation of the Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network.
