Virginia Beach Awards Federal Engineering Contract For Wireless Communications Assessment
FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, June 22, 2010 — Virginia Beach, Virginia has awarded Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) a contract to assess the City’s current communications assets and determine their life expectancy.
Ms. Gwen Cowart, Director of ComIT for the City of Virginia Beach stated: “Communications and the supporting radio infrastructure is a foundational component of the City’s ability to deliver critical services to the citizens of Virginia Beach. The overall system is comprised of multiple subsystems in various stages of their lifecycles. Wireless communication systems are used for administrative, mission critical, and safety of life communications by first responders and public service employees. The effective lifecycle of these subsystems can be impacted by many factors including useful life of the equipment, technical obsolescence, lack of vendor support, internal infrastructure and support organizations, maintenance processes, budget availability, use by other agencies, FCC mandates, Department of Homeland Security directives, growing expectation on the part of the public, and changing user requirements.”
“The City of Virginia Beach has requested that Federal Engineering perform an assessment of the viability and life expectations of the existing communications system that supports public safety and public service agencies, evaluate the applicability of the organizational structure, processes, and procedures associated with the system, determine the impacts of rebanding and the transition to a digital system, and recommend when updates and replacements should occur,” indicated Mr. Ronald F. Bosco, FE’s President. “FE will analyze communication systems that serve both public safety and public service agencies including the radio system as well as supporting communications and IT systems such as the microwave backhaul system, monitoring and fault management systems, software applications for public safety, systems in 911 center, and the supporting physical infrastructure of all those systems.”
Federal Engineering provides a wide range of design and management services in public safety involving VHF, UHF, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz and 4.9GHz communications systems. The firm also assists in the design and implementation of PSAPs, ECCs, and EOCs.
As a nationwide communications systems planning and design firm, Federal Engineering develops voice, data, and video networks for a wide range of end users, including organizations in the aerospace, energy, finance, education, publishing, and computer services fields. In addition to its private sector work, FE has completed hundreds of communications projects for 30 state governments, as well as numerous local and federal government clients.
