Rockbridge County Awards Federal Engineering Radio Communications Consulting Contract
FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, September 22, 2011 — Rockbridge Count, Virginia has awarded Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) a consulting contract to assist with the upgrade of its radio communications systems.
According to Mr. Ray Mulhall, Interim Executive Director of the Rockbridge County 911 Center: “Rockbridge County covers over 607 square miles and has a population of more than 34,000. The County, as well as the cities within it, have experienced strong growth over the last few years and are consistently attracting new industries. This growth is anticipated to continue for the foreseeable future.”
Mr. Mulhall continued: “The demand for emergency services has grown substantially as a result of the ongoing increase in population. Yet our public safety communications system is antiquated having been pieced together over the years from three separate systems. The County requires the services of a first rate consulting firm to provide guidance as we move forward with the modernization of our systems. Federal Engineering was chosen as the result of a very competitive procurement based upon the firm’s experience, the depth of its personnel, and the best value to the County as demonstrated in their proposal.”
Mr. Ronald F. Bosco, Federal Engineering’s President, provided a vignette of the program: “FE will meet with County and cities first responders and review previous studies to develop an understanding of current and future requirements. We will also survey current communications sites to document their condition and determine what improvements are required to support the envisioned new system. A top level design will be synthesized including coverage and interference analyses. FE will then report its findings to the County, make recommendations for upgrades, and estimate the costs for those upgrades. FE will assist the County during the procurement process including RFP development, review of vendor proposals, selection recommendations, and contract negotiations support. During the implementation phase, FE will provide program management, independent validation and verification, and inspection services.
Federal Engineering provides a wide range of design and management services in public safety and public service involving VHF, UHF, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz and 4.9GHz communications systems. FE also assists in the design and implementation of E911, PSAPs, ECCs, and EOCs.
As a nationwide communications systems planning and design firm, Federal Engineering develops voice, data, and video networks for numerous firms including utilities, transportation, aerospace, energy, finance, education, publishing, and computer services. In addition to its private sector work, FE has completed over a thousand communications projects for 30 state governments, as well as numerous local and federal government clients. FE’s certified independence ensures that clients receive objective, unbiased consulting services that are not influenced by any particular technology, product, vendor, or approach.
