Marin County Awards Federal Engineering Radio Implementation Support Contract
FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, March 13, 2017 — Marin County, CA has awarded Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) a contract to provide project management and technical support to the Marin Emergency Radio Authority (MERA), a countywide consortium of public agencies and first responders, during the implementation phase of their new P25 Phase 2 trunked radio system.
Mr. Pat Echols, the County’s Assistant Director of Public Works and MERA Operations Officer said: “FE successfully completed previous phases of our project which included performing a needs assessment, assessing system alternatives, developing a preliminary implementation schedule, and generating an RFP for acquisition of the new system. The firm also provided MERA with expert technical and solicitation support, assisted with radio system vendor proposal evaluations and supported contract negotiations with the selected vendor. FE did a great job representing Marin’s interests and we felt their continued participation would serve the County well.”
Mr. Ronald F. Bosco, FE’s President and CEO, provided an overview of the Marin project: “ FE’s implementation support services take a project from the initiation, planning, and design review phases through installation, testing, and final cutover. FE will assess the vendor’s plan before major commitments are made and will provide the County management with recommendations to mitigate risks and create a proactive project management environment. We will assess if the radio vendor’s implementation plan is consistent with the contract regarding system requirements, schedule, and cost milestones.”
Mr. Rajit Jhaver, FE Director, provided additional details: “Federal Engineering will support the preliminary design review and final design review processes. We will attend factory testing, scrutinize equipment deliveries, and assess systems installation. FE will also accompany the system vendor during coverage testing to review methodologies, testing equipment calibration, and data collection completeness. Upon completion of system acceptance testing and correction of deficiencies, including punch list and documentation items, FE will make recommendations to the County regarding acceptance of the system.”
