Public Safety Radio System Analysis to be Performed by Federal Engineering for the Town of Simsbury

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, October 15, 2018 — The Town of Simsbury, Connecticut has awarded Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) a contract to conduct an assessment and inventory of its public safety radio system and evaluate the future radio system needs of the Town.

Mr. Scott Wiggins, Vice President at Federal Engineering, provided an overview: “FE will conduct a complete assessment of current radio systems and operations including backbone equipment, microwave equipment, radio sites, subscriber units, and interoperability. We will perform an analysis of the effectiveness and efficiency of the existing system, which shall include both core equipment and subscriber equipment. This analysis will also include an assessment of current repair and maintenance operations provided for the radio systems and how these should be modified now and in the future. At the conclusion of this project, FE will make recommendations relative to upgrades or replacement of existing communication systems and provide the associated cost estimates.”

Ms. Melissa Appleby, Deputy Town Manager, said: “Radio communications are crucial to the day-to-day operations of the Simsbury Police Department, Simsbury Volunteer Ambulance Association, Simsbury Department of Public Works, and Simsbury Board of Education. As such, we were looking for an experienced consulting firm that could conduct a thorough analysis and make recommendations for improving our radio system. Federal Engineering was selected based upon their superior written proposal, impressive presentation, and strong references from other communities in our local region. We are confident that FE’s work will provide tremendous support as we prepare for potential upgrades or replacement of our public safety radio system.”
