Santa Monica Awards Federal Engineering Regional Dispatch Center Contract

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, February 28, 2022 – The City of Santa Monica, California has selected Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) to evaluate opportunities for improving regional dispatch operations.

Deputy Fire Chief Tom Clemo, Project Manager for the City, said: “The Cities of Santa Monica, Culver City, Beverly Hills, El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach and Torrance are exploring the option of forming a regional, consolidated fire dispatch center. Alternatives for analysis will include joining existing consolidated centers or creating an independent center.”

“Deputy Chief Clemo continued: Federal Engineering’s comprehensive project will assess:

  • Technology
  • Staffing
  • Data analytics
  • Facilities and locations
  • Continuity of operations
  • Deployment strategies
  • Transition planning
  • Governance
  • Budget and funding options
  • Training and quality assurance”

Mr. Donald Nagle Federal Engineering Vice President said: “We are thrilled that Santa Monica has selected Federal Engineering for this important project. We appreciate the unique needs of the participating cities having provided public safety consulting services to jurisdictions in California for over two decades. FE experts regularly speak at industry events including NENA, IWCE, and APCO conferences. We are respected members of the public safety community, chair national committees, and have had papers published by these professional organizations. Our consultants have contributed to the development of emergency communication standards through NENA, SBP, APCO, IEEE, NFPA, NIMS, TIA, and many others.”

Mr. Nagle continued: “FE’s team of former first responders, dispatchers, technologists, and center managers understands the broad range of issues facing Santa Monica that must be addressed when assessing consolidations. FE’s subject matter experts will evaluate existing operations, assess alternatives for joining existing consolidated centers or creating an independent center, and recommend the regionalization alternative that best meets the needs of the client agencies, as well as opportunities for additional fire agencies and public safety partners to join in the future.”
