Doña Ana County Awards Federal Engineering Contract for Radio Consulting Services

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, February 14, 2022 – Doña Ana County, New Mexico has awarded Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) a contract to assess the County’s current public safety mobile radio system and recommend improvements to meet the needs of Doña Ana’s first responders.

Mr. Bob Bunting, Project Manager for the County said: “The County currently operates a VHF simulcast radio system where there are gaps in coverage and problems with interference. To aid in the development of a long-term public safety communications plan, Doña Ana seeks to have a needs assessment completed with analysis of two specific alternatives: remaining on VHF or joining the Statewide Digital Trunked Radio (DTRS) operated by New Mexico Department of Information Technology (DoIT). We had detailed conversations with Federal Engineering and selected the firm because of their experience, reputation, and subject matter expertise.”

Mr. Brad Barber, FE Vice President summarized the project: ““FE has been serving jurisdictions in New Mexico since 1984. We will partner with the County to perform the following tasks:

  • Review the existing systems documentation
  • Conduct user interviews and focus groups
  • Perform site surveys and existing system evaluations
  • Model existing systems radio coverage
  • Conduct an FETeamCoverageTM workshop
  • Analyze interoperability and interface requirements
  • Perform an alternatives analysis
  • Deliver an Alternatives Analysis and Recommendations Report

By applying our proven methodologies, we are confident we will deliver recommendations that will meet the County’s needs. FE is also available to support procurement and implementation activities when the County selects an alternative and the project moves forward.”
