Mesa Awards Federal Engineering Radio Tower Consulting Contract
FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, November 18, 2019 — The City of Mesa, Arizona has awarded Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) a contract to assess the County’s public safety mobile radio system and recommend additional sites to improve coverage.
Mr. Rajit Jhaver, FE Director, described the project: “Federal Engineering will review and evaluate two TOPAZ Regional Wireless Cooperative (TRWC) radio systems. These systems are the 800Mhz P25 simulcast system consisting of nine simulcast subsites and the VHF simplex simulcast radio system used for fire hazard zone operations throughout the TRWC coverage area consisting of eight simulcast TX /RX sites and four RX only sites. We will make recommendations for modifications to existing sites or addition of new sites to improve existing coverage and to address the continued expansion of the TRWC boundaries. FE will also provide additional consulting services as required by the county to implement the improvements.”
In announcing the contract, Mr. Dave Brunk the Project Manager for Mesa said: “This project is extremely important to the City. Knowledge, expertise and experience in the following areas were mandatory for the selection of a consultant:
- Design and implementation of Very High Frequency and 800 Megahertz public safety radio systems
- Radio Frequency (FRF) propagation prediction, modeling, and measurement software
- Motorola Astro 25™ digital and conventional analog simulcast equipment and operation
- Performing intermodulation studies
- Voice and data networks both over fiber and microwave
- RF planning and engineering of public safety land mobile radio systems
- Federal Communications Commission RF licensing requirements and procedures
In addition, the consultant must have strong communication skills both verbally and written form; including effective working skill in dealing with local government officials, suppliers, contractors and the public and considerable skill in preparing written reports, presentations, documentation and the maintenance of a variety of records. Federal Engineering met or exceed all of our requirements and was chosen for this project.”
