Grant County Awards Federal Engineering Radio Consulting Contract
FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, June 18, 2018 — Grant County, Wisconsin has awarded Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) a contract to evaluate the County’s existing conventional simulcast VHF system and make recommendations for modification, expansion, and possibly replacement of the radio infrastructure.
Mr. Scott Wiggins, FE Vice President provided a vignette of the project: “As the County’s radio consultant, FE will evaluate system users’ needs and assess the existing infrastructure, tower sites, and equipment. We will determine high-level user requirements for the radio system, microwave backhaul, interfaces to other systems, alarms, portables and mobiles, and other accessories such as headsets and logging recorders. Based on our assessment, FE will recommend replacement, modification, or expansions necessary to achieve acceptable mobile and portable radio coverage throughout Grant County. FE will discuss training requirements as part of the recommended system changes. We will review the procurement process used by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office and recommend the next steps in implementing the radio system replacement, modification, and expansion project.”
Mr. Chris Johll, Communications Supervisor for the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, stated: “Our radio system supports sheriff, fire, and fire paging. The existing radio system has been narrowbanded and works as well as can be expected in the rugged Wisconsin terrain, with some coverage gaps. The County is building a new public safety building with a dispatch center supporting the radio system. We require the services of a consulting firm that can support us through all phases of this project from analysis through system cutover. Federal Engineering was selected because of their reputation in the industry and broad range of capabilities. With strong background in Wisconsin, the firm can hit the ground running and immediately be productive.”
