Federal Engineering to Participate in Ohio Public Safety Broadband Conference

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, October 19, 2017 — Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) has been invited to participate in the 1st annual Public Safety Broadband Ohio Conference, to be held on November 1-2, 2017 in Columbus, OH. This conference is a collaboration of private and public sector wireless executives, inspired to help all stakeholders in the transition from LMR to next generation LTE-based public safety broadband and critical communications services throughout Ohio.

Mr. Horden will be presenting Budgeting, Capital Expense and Cost of Ownership in an LTE World. This session covers the considerations agencies must understand in the purchase, budgeting, capital expense, and cost forecasting for LTE Network use. He will also cover the important cost considerations involved with supporting both LMR and an LTE network as the multi-year migration to the public safety broadband network occurs.”

In addition, Mr. Horden will be participating in a panel session entitled Integrating LMR and LTE: Interfaces to Multiple Networks. As Public Safety LMR systems will continue to operate for many years, we can expect public safety agencies to will rely on a mix of LMR and LTE technologies. This panel will explore the coexistence of, and simultaneous use of, LMR and LTE technologies, focusing on the necessary operational requirements to ensure continued interoperability. Areas to be addressed will include a plan to establish interfaces between FirstNet’s network and existing LMR networks as well as enabling voice calls to take place between users on the LTE networks and a connected LMR network.

Mr. Horden is a 35-year veteran of the wireless communications industry and began his career with Federal Engineering in 2004. Prior to joining FE, he held various positions at a major radio equipment manufacturer including Systems Engineering, Sales Engineering, and Product Management. Mr. Horden is a member of the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO) and serves on their Commercial Advisory Council. He is also a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), and the Radio Club of America (RCA). Mr. Horden is a member of Project 25 Technology Interest Group (PTIG) Board of Directors and serves on MissionCritical Communications magazine’s editorial advisory board. He also participates in National Public Safety Telecommunications (NPSTC) working groups, APCO standards development committees, and presents regularly at the International Wireless Communications Expo (IWCE) and APCO conferences.
