Federal Engineering Selected to Support Kenosha County Public Safety Radio Tower Expansion Project

Kenosha County, Wisconsin, has selected Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) to serve as the County’s technical owner’s representative for a public safety radio simulcast communications tower expansion project. The engagement will help strengthen radio coverage for the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office, fire protection, and emergency medical services agencies in areas where reliable communications are critical to responder safety and effective emergency operations.
“Kenosha Joint Services Dispatch supports communications for nineteen law enforcement, fire protection, and EMS agencies operating throughout the county. While the County implemented a new communications system in 2020, coverage gaps remain in the Village of Twin Lakes, the Town of Wheatland, and the Town of Randall,” said Mr. Frank Martinelli, Project Manager for Kenosha County.
“These coverage shortfalls have contributed to intermittent reception of radio dispatch notifications by fire and EMS personnel, difficulty for the Emergency Communications Center to hear responders in the field, and challenges with responders hearing one another during emergency incidents,” Mr. Martinelli continued. “Reliable radio communications are essential to public safety. Addressing these gaps will help improve situational awareness, response coordination, and the ability of first responders to operate effectively when every second matters.”
As part of the project, the County plans to construct an additional transmit/receive site to improve mobile, portable, and paging system coverage in the affected areas. FE will provide independent technical oversight, including program oversight, design review, compliance monitoring, procurement support, construction monitoring, and owner’s representative services throughout the project lifecycle.
