Cortland County Selects Federal Engineering For Radio Consulting Contract

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, February 10, 2010 — Cortland County, New York has selected Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) to provide consulting services for the analysis of the existing Cortland County Radio Communication System and conceptual design, budget estimate, and FCC licensing of a new Cortland County Emergency Communications Interoperability System. This project will emphasize interoperability among emergency service agencies within and surrounding Cortland County including but not limited to Law Enforcement, Fire, Ambulance, Emergency Management, and Health Department, as well as County, Town and Village highway departments.

Mr. Robert J. Corpora, Director of Information Technology for the County said: “Cortland County, like many rural counties across the United States, is faced with the problem of an inadequate public safety communication system that no longer meets the requirements of local public safety agencies. Several of the County’s systems, which date back to the 1970s, are no longer supportable due to the unavailability of replacement components, and many run the risk of catastrophic failure if repair parts cannot be cannibalized from existing equipment or fabricated. In addition, the County does not have enough licensed frequencies (channels) to support police and fire operations or adequate countywide coverage. A severe coverage problem exists in the northern part of the County that affects all departments including Police, Fire, and EMS.”

“Federal Engineering is working with many counties in the same region as Cortland including the counties of Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Onondaga and Oswego. We are thoroughly familiar with the local public safety communications environment and understand the challenges facing Cortland County,” indicated Mr. Ronald F. Bosco, FE’s President. “FE will survey current systems, assess the needs of all participating organizations, and synthesize a solution the meets the current and future needs of those organizations. FE will also assist the County in procuring the new systems and will provide program management, independent validation and verification, and other implementation support services to ensure that new system meets those needs. In addition, FE will provide guidance in migrating users from existing communication systems to the new system.”

Federal Engineering provides a wide range of design and management services in public safety involving VHF, UHF, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz and 4.9GHz communications systems. FE also assists in the design and implementation of PSAPs, ECCs, and EOCs.

As a nationwide communications systems planning and design firm, Federal Engineering develops voice, data, and video networks for a wide range of end users, including organizations in the aerospace, energy, finance, education, publishing, and computer services fields. In addition to its private sector work, FE has completed hundreds of communications projects for 30 state governments, as well as numerous local and federal government clients.
