Lakeland Awards Federal Engineering Consulting Contract For 800 MHz Radio System Evaluation
FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, April 19, 2011 — The City of Lakeland, Florida has awarded Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) a contract to evaluate the City’s current public safety mobile radio system and recommend a course of action to meet current and future user needs.
Mr. Richard Hesse, Telecommunications Manager for the City, described the program: “Federal Engineering will perform a needs assessment to determine our communications requirements. The study will encompass in-depth interviews of users to identify areas of improvement, preliminary system design goals, and provide a determination of the subscribers’ requirements. FE will also conduct a traffic analysis to assess current and future system loading in order to determine the number of channels required.”
Mr. Hesse continued: “Based upon the needs assessment, FE will develop a recommended design including infrastructure equipment, subscriber units, coverage requirements, system redundancy specifications and ongoing system maintenance. Bid/proposal documents will then be generated for the procurement of the new communications system and FE will assist the City in the procurement phase including contract negotiations support. Throughout the process, presentations and status reports will be generated by FE to adequately inform City Management and City Commissioners of proposed solution, budget requirements, and vendor selection.”
Mr. Ronald F. Bosco, FE’s President, stated: “Federal Engineering will provide the City of Lakeland with an unparalleled understanding of public safety communications knowledge, which is key to designing a cost effective interoperable radio network. FE is providing public safety communications consulting to many jurisdictions similar in size to the City and we understand the technology and interoperability issues associated with aging local and regional radio networks. We have worked on numerous 700/800 MHz public safety systems including systems for the State of Oregon, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the Overlay Regional Interoperability Network (ORION) in the Hampton Roads region of Virginia to name a few. Our Florida team is located a short drive from Lakeland so we can readily respond to the needs of the City.”
FE provides a wide range of land mobile radio analysis, design, procurement support, and implementation management services for public safety, public service, transportation, and energy systems. The firm also provides security analyses, disaster recovery planning, strategic assessments, product analyses, market research, and business planning services in telecommunications and related fields.
