Washtenaw County Awards Federal Engineering a Contract for Emergency Communications Services

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, January 29, 2024 – The County of Washtenaw, Michigan Sheriff’s Office has awarded Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) a contract to create a strategic development framework for emergency communications and emergency management services.

Washtenaw County Sheriff Jerry L. Clayton stated: “In today’s age, the need for updated and state-of-the-art emergency communications is vital to serving an ever-increasing population in and around Washtenaw County. In order to meet these elevated standards, we require the services of a consulting firm that can bring “lessons learned” from the industry and other jurisdictions to our project. It was clear from their proposal that Federal Engineering has the knowledge, experience, and dedication to fulfill our needs.”

Sheriff Clayton continued: “FE will provide the following services:

  1. Assess Washtenaw Metro Dispatch existing operations.
  2. Assess the feasibility of providing dispatch services to all law enforcement agencies in Washtenaw County.
  3. Assess the feasibility of providing dispatch services to all law enforcement agencies in Washtenaw County and the City of Ann Arbor Fire Department.
  4. Assess the feasibility of providing dispatch services to all law enforcement and public fire service agencies (i.e., fire departments) in Washtenaw County.

At the conclusion, Federal Engineering will deliver a detailed assessment and well-organized recommendations that are grounded in national best-practices, public safety communications industry trends, the mission of the Sheriff’s Office, and the operational philosophy of the Sheriff’s Emergency Services Division.
