Nome Awards Federal Engineering a Contract for Public Safety Radio and 911 Consulting

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, August 28, 2023 – City of Nome, Alaska (City) has awarded Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) a contract to assess the City’s mobile radio and 911 systems.

Mr. Wade Harrison, Project Manager for the City said: “Nome operates dispatch systems and emergency services serving first responders that have reached end-of-life. The City seeks a reliable radio system capable of maintaining lines of communication between dispatch at the Public Safety Building and NPD officers and Fire and Ambulance personnel while performing their public safety functions. In addition, we want an evaluation of our 911 capabilities. Through a competitive procurement process, we selected Federal Engineering based upon the firm’s background and experience.”

Mr. Rajit Jhaver, Director for Federal Engineering provided more details: “Federal Engineering will evaluate and analyze the City’s systems including on-site evaluations in Nome and draft a report that identifies potential causes of system failures and other weaknesses. The report will contain recommendations for eliminating failures and recommended improvements to the current systems or procurement of new systems, whichever are more cost effective to provide reliable communications for police and emergency services. Following delivery of the report, FE will continue to provide consulting services to the City regarding the implementation of its recommendations. These include assistance with a solicitation of bids for hardware and related services necessary to implement those recommendations approved by the City.”
