City of Peterborough Transitions to Next Generation 9-1-1

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, October 6, 2025 – With support from the Government of Ontario, the City of Peterborough has transitioned to a Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) network, providing emergency dispatchers, Peterborough Fire Services, and Peterborough Police with better and faster access to information during an emergency. Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) is proud to have been part of this successful project. With considerable investments made by the Ontario government, the project began in late 2023 and, with continued support from FE, was completed ahead of schedule.

Fire Chief Chris Snetsinger said: “The City of Peterborough, located approximately 80 miles northeast of Toronto, has a population of roughly 84,000. We strive to continue to improve public safety services for our citizens. With this upgrade to NG9-1-1, the City will reap multiple future benefits, including:

  • Better location accuracy that includes 3D mapping to distinguish which floor of a building the caller is on, in addition to the longitude and latitude of the caller.
  • Crash data from vehicle telematics provides details regarding the severity of the incident.
  • Safer communities with the ability to access voice, texts, videos, and photos.
  • More ways to help a variety of callers with new services such as language assistance/translation and services for the deaf and hearing impaired.
  • Greater reliability and coordination among participating agencies during a natural disaster or other large-scale emergencies.

Federal Engineering has done a wonderful job providing technical services to the City in support of this project.”

Mr. Ronald F. Bosco, President & CEO of Federal Engineering, Inc. said: “FE values this opportunity to serve the City of Peterborough.
