Federal Engineering Secures Canadian Contract for P25 Radio System Consulting
FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, April 14, 2025 – The City of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada has awarded Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) a contract to provide professional consulting services to support and manage the operational impacts of life cycling the existing radio network and consoles to a City-wide P25 radio system.
“The Public Safety Systems (PSS) branch of Ottawa’s Public Safety Service conducted an RFP process to obtain a suitable consultant to serve as our project manager and technical subject matter expert as the PSS office prepares for Bell Mobility Radio’s (BMR) upgrade of its P25 radio system. This upgrade will take the Interoperable Mobile Communications Managed Service (IMCMS) from the original AIRBUS – now VESTA 25 Core – radio sites and Zetron consoles to a new Motorola Solutions ASTRO P25 system and dispatch consoles. The upgrade will reset the City’s radio system lifecycle and support plans and will provide improvements to the City’s 7,000 radio users, including Ottawa Fire Services, Ottawa Police Service, Transit Services Department, Public Works Department, other City departments, as well as other partners,” explained Mr. Denis Créte, Project Officer for the City.
Mr. Rajit Jhaver, Associate Vice President for Federal Engineering, provided more details: “Our Canadian consultants thoroughly understand the public safety communications environment in Ottawa. FE will work on the project planning, design review, migration planning, acceptance testing, user training, quality assurance, vendor coordination, operational impact assessments and implementation planning, as well as system cutover and acceptance of the P25 system. Since many of our consultants are former first responders, we appreciate the need for interoperable radio communications that meet user needs, is affordable, and can be implemented at minimum risk. We guide each client through their unique challenges and help determine a smooth transition to achieve optimal communications results.”
