San Diego Retains Federal Engineering to Support Rebanding Efforts
FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, March 2, 2015 — The City of San Diego, CA, (City) has retained Federal Engineering, Inc.
(FE) to assist in the rebanding of its 800MHz land mobile radio communications systems.
Mr. Ronald F. Bosco, FE’s President, provided an overview of the program: “The City owns and operates multiple 800 MHz radio subsystems that provide communications services for public safety and public service users throughout the City. San Diego, along with other public safety radio system operators in the United States, is involved in a frequency reconfiguration effort in order to separate its 800 MHz frequencies from those of commercial carriers. All of the City’s frequencies must be reconfigured and this will necessitate a significant logistical and engineering effort. It is imperative that this task of frequency reconfiguration be handled smoothly and efficiently, to both minimize disruption to public safety users, and to ensure that the reconfigured systems and radios provide comparable facilities and performance to that provided prior to reconfiguration.”
Mr. Bosco continued: “FE will support the City throughout the rebanding process including:
- Provide technical consulting to facilitate an orderly and complete reconfiguration process
- Work with Motorola and their subcontractors to coordinate plans for the replacement, retuning, reprogramming and reconfiguration of all City owned radio system infrastructure and user agency devices
- Facilitate communication and coordination among all parties participating in this process
- Assess baseline system measurements and final acceptance tests to ensure that the performance of the rebanded systems is comparable to existing systems
FE will apply its vast experiences to assist the City in making the reconfiguration process as smooth and efficient as possible.”
Federal Engineering provides a wide range of design and management services in public safety and public service communications involving LTE as well as traditional VHF, UHF, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz and 4.9GHz mobile radio systems. FE also assists in the design and implementation of NG9-1-1, PSAPs, ECCs, and EOCs. Since 1983, FE has completed thousands of communications projects for 40 state governments, as well as numerous local and federal government clients. Most recently, FE has expanded its service offerings to support FirstNet planning in anticipation of the Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network.
In addition to its public sector work, Federal Engineering provides design and implementation support services for voice, data, and video networks used in the transportation, utilities, aerospace, finance, education, publishing, and computer services industries. FE’s certified independence ensures that clients receive objective, unbiased consulting services that are not influenced by any particular technology, product, vendor, or approach.
