Calgary Transit Selects Federal Engineering for Radio Communications System Engineering Consulting Services

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, July 6, 2015 — The City of Calgary, Canada has awarded Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) a contract to provide guidance, engineering, design and management services for developing a radio communications solution to meet the business needs of Calgary Transit.

Mr. Ronald F. Bosco, FE’s President, summarized the project: “Calgary Transit has used the TELUS Mobility’s Mike service for general two-way radio communications since 2001. The TELUS Mobility’s Mike system is based on iDEN (Integrated Digital Enhanced Network) technology developed by Motorola and it is operated on a subscriber model. Calgary Transit has nearly 2,500 Mike subscribers and 30 talkgroups. With TELUS Mobility’s Mike network approaching the end of its serviceable life, there is an opportunity for the City to explore potential future strategies in the implementation of a radio communications system that will provide sustainable and interoperable voice and data communications to Calgary Transit.”

Mr. Bosco continued: “This project is structured in six phases: Needs Assessment, Design Criteria and Analysis of Alternative Designs; Detailed Design and Budget Projections; Preparation of Procurement Documents; Procurement Process and Contract Negotiations; and System Implementation. Federal Engineering will provide consulting throughout all six phases so that the unique needs of Transit will be met by a state-of-the-art wireless communications system.”

Federal Engineering provides analysis, design, procurement, and implementation support for NG9-1-1, PSAPs, ECCs, and EOCs. These services complement FE’s wide range of consulting services in public safety and public service communications involving LTE as well as traditional VHF, UHF, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz and 4.9GHz mobile radio systems. Since 1983, FE has completed thousands of communications projects for 40 state governments, as well as numerous local and federal government clients. Most recently, FE has expanded its services to support FirstNet planning in anticipation of the Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network.

In addition to its public sector work, Federal Engineering provides design and implementation support services for voice, data, and video networks used in the transportation, utilities, aerospace, finance, education, publishing, and computer services industries. FE’s certified independence ensures that clients receive objective, unbiased consulting services that are not influenced by any particular technology, product, vendor, or approach.
