Orange County, Virginia Selects Federal Engineering for Broadband and Radio Consulting
FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, September 26, 2016 — Orange County, VA has selected Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) to assist with broadband communications and public safety mobile radio projects.
Ronald F. Bosco, FE’s President and CEO, stated: “Orange County has decided to upgrade its aging public safety communications system with a modern P25, standards-based digital radio system. In doing so, the County is in an excellent position to leverage this investment to promote public-private partnerships and deliver broadband services to its underserved rural residents. With many areas of the county experiencing limited or no high-speed internet access, the Orange County Board of Supervisors has made the availability of broadband one of its top priorities. A broadband authority composed of five sitting supervisors, intends to contract with the private sector to provide service for broadband connection anytime, anywhere to all county citizens.”
Mr. Bosco continued, “Federal Engineering has assisted several counties in Virginia in developing public-private partnerships that make use of county facilities as a means of attracting private sector investments. Orange County has taken a proactive approach by identifying broadband needs before the public safety radio project begins. In this way, the County will make the best use of FE’s services to achieve its goals in both areas.”
The Orange County Administrator, Mr. R. Bryan David, said, “The County Supervisors voted to authorize staff to enter into a contract with Federal Engineering who was the chosen firm to conduct radio engineering and consulting services for several county projects all connected with the broadband initiative. FE is very confident and experienced in public safety communications. They also recognized and saw, and it really excited them, this opportunity of leveraging the public safety system to help with rural wireless broadband.”
