Douglas County Retains Federal Engineering for Communications Consulting
FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, July 19, 2021 – Douglas County, Nevada has retained the services of Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) for public safety radio and microwave consulting services.
Mr. Rajit Jhaver, FE Director, provided a vignette of the project: “Under this contract, Federal Engineering will:
- Conduct FE’s Coverage Workshop to identify the ideal locations for towers for optimal coverage
- Evaluate the state system for Sheriff’s use as well as a standalone system
- Generate budget estimates for each system broken down by phased upgrades
- Prepare a conceptual design report of the system including analysis and recommendations
- Develop a digital microwave system conceptual design to interconnect the LMR sites
FE will support the County’s decision-making process to move this project forward and be available to develop procurement specifications as well as assist in the procurement phase of the project.”
Mr. Daniel Williams, Project Manager for the County said: “FE has completed multiple projects in the State of Nevada and across the western United States, so we are familiar with the firm’s capabilities. We selected FE to provide an independent needs assessment and conceptual design for new LMR and microwave systems. The County currently has three VHF public safety radio systems: Sheriff’s countywide system, Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection which serves Stateline, Zephyr Cove, Glenbrook-Lake Tahoe, and East Fork Fire Protection which serves the rest of the county. FE’s assessment will determine where to locate towers to maximize coverage, using a combination of existing available County land and other assets to be determined. Our desire is to have each entity continue to maintain their own system as the upgrades are incorporated.”
