Corporation for Public Broadcasting Awards Federal Engineering Public Safety and Emergency Alerting Consulting Contract

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, May 6, 2019 — The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) has awarded Federal Engineering, Inc. (FE) a contract to review current and future ways public media supports public safety and emergency alerting for our nation, at-large and on the ground in local communities.

“As the steward of the federal appropriation for public media, CPB is exploring how public media entities can enhance their public safety services and be an even stronger partner with federal, state, and local public safety officials,” said Ted Krichels, CPB senior vice president, system development & media strategy. “Chosen through a competitive process, Federal Engineering demonstrated a deep understanding of the multifaceted public safety ecosystem and identified pathways in which public media can strengthen their service in this ever-changing space.”

Federal Engineering will identify and analyze how public media supports public safety and emergency alerting in the U.S., assess opportunities and challenges in light of new technologies, make recommendations, and produce a whitepaper on public media’s role in the future of public safety. The company will also create easy-to-understand graphics on this topic.

Mr. Neil Horden, FE’s Chief Consultant, said: “We are proud to partner with public media entities and further their emergency alerting efforts. Because of our decades-long relationship with first responders, we understand their operating environments and unique needs allowing us to best serve CPB and determine the most effective path forward. In addition to the specific tasks called out in our contract, FE will be available to provide subject matter experts to advise CPB as they move forward with their plans to support the public safety community.”

As a leading, nationwide communications systems planning and design firm, Federal Engineering develops voice, data, and video networks for numerous organizations in the aerospace, energy, finance, education, publishing, and computer services fields. In addition to its private sector work, FE has completed thousands of communications projects for 46 state governments, as well as numerous local and federal government clients. FE’s certified independence ensures that clients receive objective, unbiased consulting services that are not influenced by any particular technology, product, vendor, or approach.

With FE’s addition of the L.R. Kimball public safety communications consulting practice, jurisdictions can rely upon one firm for all of their consulting needs in E9-1-1, NG9-1-1, PSAPs, Emergency Call Centers, and Emergency Operations Centers as well as land mobile radio voice, wireless data, broadband, backhaul, and emerging LTE mobile communications systems.
